Hong Kong approves crypto tax reporting rules

Hong Kong's Legislative Council has approved the adoption of the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF), The Defiant reports.
Starting January 1, 2027, crypto service providers will have to register, verify clients and collect transaction data. Automatic exchange of tax information with other jurisdictions will begin in 2028.
For someone who holds or exchanges cryptocurrency, this means crypto service providers in Hong Kong will collect data on clients and their transactions, and this information will then be shared with tax authorities in other jurisdictions.
